Recovered engineering time around critical healthcare APIs.

Replacing heavyweight local environments with consistent Kubernetes-based workflows made regulated API work faster, more testable, and easier to observe.

Estimated capacity recovered

$560K / yearApproximately 3.5 full-time engineering equivalents.

The constraint

A 35-person team was losing roughly 45 minutes per developer each day to slow, heavyweight local environments. Any improvement also had to support the testing and operational evidence expected in an FDA-regulated setting.

What changed

  • Paired scalable Python API work with containerized local-development workflows.
  • Moved development onto Kubernetes-based environments that were closer to production.
  • Strengthened automated testing and cloud monitoring for regulated changes.
  • Made the repeatable path easier to adopt than the old local setup.

The result

The platform returned about 26.5 engineering hours each day, or an estimated $560K of annual engineering capacity, while improving consistency around regulated changes.
